Progress Report ~ January

Sadly I didn’t do a Progress Report in December. I almost did, because I hated the idea that I had eleven in 2012 instead of twelve. But I only started thinking about it after I had rounded up all the books and films I had read last year, and so a progress report after that seemed kind of redundant.

In case you don’t know, my Progress Report is a monthly post where I summarise what I have achieved on my two yearly lists. What to Do in 2013 is a list I make in lieu of New Year’s Resolutions, and 31 Before 31 is my birthday list. I like lists, OK?

See 52 New Films

I’ve been trying to make a point of writing a blog post about every new film I see, but I’m a bit behind. I absolutely loved The Impossible, just thinking about it now makes me want to see it again. It’s a harrowing couple of hours, and I was a wreck throughout, but it was a great film all the same! I’m making my way through my Hitchcock box set (more on that below), and I watched Speed on the television. I have actually seen most of it before, but while I was watching it, it occurred to me that I have never seen the start (I didn’t even know that Jeff Daniels was in it). So it counts as a new film.

Read 75 Books

I’m quite pleased with ten books in a month. Admittedly, a couple of them were not as long as others, but they all count, especially as a couple of them were quite long! I’m making my way through the Jack Reacher books, I’ve read four now, and I’m still enjoying them. I also read the two Carrie Diaries books, as the television series was starting in America, and I always like to have read the source material first (though that has bitten me in the bum a little bit with Game of Thrones). I thoroughly enjoyed Mrs Kennedy and Me, and Valley of the Dolls was delightfully trashy.

That’s it for my What to do in 2013 list; there’s plenty of time for everything else, and most of them are more summery exploits anyway.

31 Before 31

I managed to get one of my 31 crossed off in December (which I think is the quickest I have ever done an item on my birthday list!), but because I didn’t do a Progress Report in December, I didn’t include it.

I crossed off Number 7 – Visit a new British city, when I went to Lincoln with my friends Hannah and Katy for the Christmas market. I am still hoping to do a bit more exploring in this country this year, which is why I included this on the list.

I watched Notorious in December, and both Rope and Family Plot in January. They were my first three Hitchcocks films of this challenge (Number 2 – Watch 12 New Hitchcock films), so I have another nine to go.

I can’t cross this one off yet, but I got a ukulele for Christmas, so Number 22 – Buy and learn the ukulele is halfway done. I have been trying to learn, but I haven’t picked it up in a couple of weeks. I’m sure I’ll be able to at least play a tune by my birthday!

Another one that I can’t quite cross off is Number 18 – Complete a colouring book. But I have bought one, and I’m getting through it, slowly!

You may also remember that I baked some cookies earlier this month, meaning that Number 4 – Bake 10 different biscuits is 1/10th complete. I’ve got a few recipes stashed away for some more next month, but I’m always on the look out for some new recipes, so if you have any, please send them my way!

I’m also slowly getting through Number 1 – Read 26 Books – one for each letter of the alphabet. So far I’ve read a new author beginning with C, G, K, M and S. You can keep up with my progress here.

All in all, I’m thrilled with my progress. I have only crossed off one thing, but I feel confident about getting more done this year than ever before!

  1. Looks like you’ve been quite busy! Those biscuits looks delicious. I’m quite a telly addict and book worm, but don’t think I’d get through 10 books in a month!

I found you on UK Bloggers group.

    • I’ve had a lot of time to read; I’m lucky that way!

Thanks for stopping by – I just had a look at your blog and your new book looks fab! I’m sure at some point this year you’ll see it pop up on one of my Progress Reports! x
