Progress Report ~ May

See 52 New Films

It was quite a good month for films, mainly because I went away to the caravan and watched three films, two of which I hadn’t seen before. I also went to the cinema to see Olympus Has Fallen (you can read my thoughts here), and watched the frankly appalling GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra on the television. I haven’t had a chance to write up my thoughts on that, or the two I saw at the caravan; Perks of Being a Wallflower and New York: I Love You. Suffice to say, the latter two were a lot better than GI Joe. I also watched The Green Mile at Anna’s house, last Sunday. I had never watched it, because I had it in my head that it was a certain type of film, but it was actually a lot different to what I expected, and I loved it! I’m entering a Tom Hanks obsessive-phase. They come around every now and again.

Read 75 Books

I’ve been worrying about my books total for a couple of months now, but I actually think I’m more or less back on track now. I finished six books in May, and 75 books in a year shakes out at 6.25 books a month. I’m determined to get there! I read a book called Chaplin and Company, which was my first book from Net Galley, and I reviewed it at Hanging On Every Word. I also received In The Summertime from Net Galley, and I’m planning on writing a review of that in the next couple of days (BEDM got in the way!).

I also read my first Harlequin romance, Overheated, which I was all prepared to be embarrassed about, but in actuality, it was a lot less smutty than I expected. I read The Hand That First Held Mine by Maggie O’Farrell, for book group, and loved it. And I read two non-fiction books, that couldn’t have been further apart in terms of quality! The Other Mitford, by Diana Alexander, was the worst Mitford book I’ve ever read (and I’ve read a lot), and is going to get a scathing review from me on Goodreads when I get round to writing it. Monuments Men, by Robert M. Edsel, on the other hand, was a fascinating book that I am planning on writing a proper post about at some point. Such a fascinating story, and a really well-written book.

Go to a music concert/gig

Even though I have already ticked off this 2013 goal, when I went to see Status Quo, I thought I’d include this; I went to see The Big Reunion at the O2 with my sister, niece and her friend. It was all a bit last-minute, I filled a gap that had been vacated, but I enjoyed it, and I got a keyring!

31 Before 31

I managed to cross off another item in May, which is good, because I worry that I’m stalling a little. I am going to be really pro-active about the remaining goals this month, and see if I can have a more positive update next month!

Number 23 – Complete a cross stitch was the one that I crossed off, I finished a Gandalf cross stitch for my friend Jen’s birthday.

Number 1 – Read 26 books – one for each letter of the alphabet is going well. The Other Mitford, Monuments Men and The Hand That First Held Mine all qualified this month. I’ve completed A-H, which is aesthetically pleasing on the list, as well as a few more post-H, and I’ve only got eleven more authors to go.

Number 20 – Have an international penfriend is still not crossed off, because I haven’t blogged about it (neither have I replied to Bev’s letter!). Both will be done this week.

  1. OMG, the Honeyz! I’d forgotten that they ever existed. :-D :-D

Loooooooooove The Green Mile (even though it makes me cry). It’s one of the few films that sticks to the book perfectly. (And the book is also amazing by the way).
