My Thoughts On…The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Just a quick reminder that My Thoughts On… posts may contain spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the film in question, it may be best to move on!

What I Liked

  • As I have mentioned before about these films, the technical information about the cars doesn’t really do a lot for me; I have no interest in cars whatsoever. However, the drifting manoeuvre in this film was quite impressive and exciting.
  • My friend Hannah has gone on about the character Han for ages, but since I heard that he was actually called Han Seoul-Oh, I was prepared to hate him. I actually loved him, and was devastated when he died (even though I didn’t really realise it was actually him who had died, and even though I know he appears again in later films).
  • Seeing Vin Diesel pop up at the end was a mark in its favour.

What I Didn’t Like

  • This is the first film to move away completely from the characters in the other films. I am not a fan of Paul Walker, as you may know if you have read my posts on the other films, but Lucas Black, who stars here, is no great improvement. He doesn’t really have the charisma to carry a film all by himself.
  • There’s no discernible plot here. There’s the requisite race and chase, but not a great deal else happens.
  • I didn’t enjoy the whole idea of the main female character, Neela, essentially being a prize to be won. That’s how it felt to me, at least.
  • The chase at the end went on for ages, and stopped being interested really quickly. The whole thing of them being able to watch on their phones was a little strange too.

That’s it for Fast and Furious posts for now! I think the secret to my future enjoyment may be not to watch three in one weekend. It will also prevent me from having to write about three in a row, which has honestly been a bit of a trial.
