Mondaying

Right now, I am mostly…

Eating : All the food in the world ever. Seriously, yesterday, I had a lovely Easter Sunday roast at my niece’s house with my dad, and my sister’s family. We had a quite ridiculous number of roast potatoes, and a friend of ours dropped the above cake around in the morning, saying she baked it because she was bored. It was lemon flavoured, and it was quite divine. I still feel full now, though.

Reading : My reading is all over the place again, but I was quite pleased to receive six new books in the post on Saturday morning! Added to that were the two I got from the library – Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, which I’ve been eager to read for a while, and Six Years by Harlan Coben, which I read about online on Saturday morning, and had a look for on the shelf on the off chance it might be there when I got to the library. I was most surprised when it was; my local library is not the sort of place where that happens an awful lot (it’s only marginally bigger than my living room).

Watching : I watched a film on Netflix last night, Breathe In, for which I’ll write a My Thoughts On… post later this week. I’m still in love with Netflix, but sometimes I feel that there’s too much choice. It’s hard to narrow it down!

Playing : All the best family afternoons end with board games, and we played a couple yesterday, including Frustration. Would you believe, given where my counters are situated in the above photo, that I didn’t win? Abbie beat me, which was ridiculous, but lots of fun.

Feeling : Cold! It’s that really annoying time of year when the weather has started to warm up, so it’s OK to maybe start wearing that light jacket and leaving the coat at home, but the house is no warmer than it was two months ago. It seems the height of ridiculousness to continue having the heating on at the end of April, so I’m suffering, very much not in silence.

Listening : As I am writing this, I am listening to the most narcissistic playlist I have on Spotify. It’s called Jane, and it contains a number of songs that include my name in the title. There’s a particularly awesome live version of Sweet Jane by Lou Reed that I adore.

Wearing : I got my flipflops out at the weekend, and it felt good!

Watching : I have come to the realisation that I watch very little television these days, although I do catch up with some old favourites on iPlayer and the like. I am very much lamenting the loss of The Great British Sewing Bee though!

Socialising : I had a busy weekend all told; I saw my sister on Saturday, and my best friends on Sunday. Kim and I went to Brentwood, where I went for a blogger meet up a little while ago, and went back to some of the shops I discovered. We also had a burger at The Gastro Burger Co, which I raved about last time, and it didn’t disappoint this time either! On Sunday, my friends and I went for lunch at a little diner, which was nice, as it’s been ages since I saw my friend V!

Running : I’ve started on Couch to 5K again – I do it every now and again, get on really well with it, and then drop it for some reason. I’m determined to stick with it this time, though I have, of course, said that many times before!

Reading : Last week I finished a book called All the Things You Are by Clemency Burton-Hill, and I enjoyed it a lot. The review will be along this week.

Listening : I’ve really been enjoying all the Britpop stuff that has been on the radio over the last week, because that period is very nostalgic for me. I’ve had my Britpop playlist blasting out of Spotify for a while now!

Fangirling : Another week, another reason for me to be a loser about a tweet I got. This one was from Radio 2, rather than a specific radio personality, but I still got rather excited about it!

Right now, I am mostly…

Using : I have been using this little note that my niece wrote me as a bookmark recently. It’s nice to have a little reminder that I’m loved every time I open my book!

Talking : My friend Anna runs a Brownie and Guides pack, and she asked my friend Jen and me to come along and speak about our jobs. It might be slightly cheeky of me to call myself a writer, but I think I kind of am now (even though I don’t get paid for writing my Essex Life column, I do have another job coming up that involves me writing and pays), so it was fun to talk to the children and get them to do some writing of their own. It has also made me want to volunteer with the Brownies!

Eating : After Guides, we went back to Anna’s and ordered pizza. Would you believe that I have never had a Domino’s pizza before? I think the most I might have had is a slice of someone’s else order. I ate a lot more than one slice on Thursday, I can tell you! It’s not something I could get into a habit of, for both financial and health reasons, but it was a nice treat!

Receiving : As a thank you for talking to the aforementioned Brownies and Guides, I got an Easter Egg. I can neither confirm nor deny the rumours that it’s all gone already.

Watching : I’ve been trying to get a shifty on with my film total, as I’m running a little bit behind with my goal of one a week. I’m also trying to make full use of my Netflix subscription; there’s no point paying for it and not using it!

Fangirling : Remember when I got a bit overexcited about Mark Kermode tweeted me. Somehow I was calmer about Simon Mayo tweeting me. I don’t know how, but it may have had something to do with the fact that I’ve already spoken to him on the radio. Anyway, it’s still the coolest thing that has happened to me in a while (this is only a mildly ironic statement).

Wednesdaying

This is a bit of an anomaly; usually I post on a Monday with a Mondaying post (obviously), but that passed me by this week, and now it’s Wednesday, and I haven’t posted all week! So I’m doing so now, with a quick update as to what is going on in my life at the moment.

Right now, I am mostly…

Booking : I booked a ticket to see a film in London next month, all because it’s being presented by Mark Kermode. I would apologise, but I’m too excited. I’m going on my own too!

Reading : I am almost finished The Prodigal Daughter, by Jeffery Archer, so there will be a review up as soon as I have. When that’s done, I have to go to the library and pick up the nine books that have just arrived for me. Ridiculous.

Watching : I am loving The Great British Sewing Bee again, and I don’t want it to be over. There are only two weeks left!

Drinking : I went out to the pub with my sister on Saturday (despite planning a day of doing nothing), and didn’t feel that drunk until I got home and sent my friends a nonsense message, and woke up with a terrible hangover.

Changing : You may have noticed that the layout of my blog has changed a little. It’s always good to mix things up, and I really like it, but I’m after a new header. I’m not a designer, and as such I’m not happy with it.

Waiting : For all the Mother’s Day adverts to be gone. There are so many of them!
